Labour party PRO Eugene George

The Saint Lucia Labour Party confirms that Housing Minister, Hon. Richard Frederick, has sued its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eugene George, over statements which he allegedly made at a Press Conference on November 23, 2010. The statements concern the handling by Richard Frederick of Hurricane Tomas Relief Supplies from Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. George has filed a defense to the claims by Frederick.

In his defense, Mr. George has denied that the words which Hon. Frederick alleged were spoken by him, bore or were understood to bear, or were capable of bearing the meanings ascribed by Hon. Frederick. Further, the comments made by him were fair comments on matters of public interest, namely the handling of relief supplies by Hon. Richard Frederick on behalf of the Government of which he was part.

Mr. George further denies that Hon.  Frederick’s reputation both personally and his public office has been damaged, and that he has suffered any distress, anxiety, and embarrassment.

The Claim was filed on Hon. Richard Frederick’s behalf  by Lydia Faisal.
