Chief legal Advisor to the Government of Saint Lucia, Attorney General and Minster of Justice, Senator Hon. Lorenzo Rudolph Francis has articulated his broad plan of action aimed at improving efficiency and enhancing the services provided by Attorney General’s Chambers and the Ministry of Justice. Senator Hon. Francis who has been on the job for one (1) week has signaled his intention to adopt an aggressive and dynamic approach to the operations of the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Ministry of Justice.
In outlining his broad plan of action, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice cited the following:
- Restructure the Attorney General’s Chambers to function more effectively as a legal chamber, bearing in mind that the Attorney General is the Chief Legal Advisor to the Government.
- Be more strategic and timely in responding to litigation. This would involve pursuing the option of settlement where it is determined to be in the best interest of the state.
- Improve the public image of the Attorney General’s Chambers.
- Restructuring of the Civil Status Registry.
- Restore public confidence in the Civil Status Registry.
- Protection of the Judiciary.
- Facilitating efficiency in the court system.
- Improving working conditions for Magistrates.
- Ensure that the Attorney General’s Chambers provides the best legal advice to the Prime Minister and Cabinet of Ministers.
It is the intention of the new Attorney General and Minister of Justice to manage these two offices under his purview in a manner to ensure that there is access to relevant information and meaningful benefit from the services provided. The Attorney General and Minister of Justice will be engaged in an intensive period of orientation and strategic reflection in the coming weeks. It is the intention of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to make himself available to the media for an inaugural press conference soon after the completion of the orientation process.
