In keeping with its promise to contribute substantially to the Haiti Relief Fund the St Lucia Calypso Association 2009 will on Tuesday March 16, 2010 present a cheque totally EC$ 16,000.00 to the Government of St Lucia.
The newly formed Association challenged itself to organize a fundraising event on Saturday February 27 at the National Cultural Center with two objectives:
- To celebrate St Lucia’s 31st Independence Anniversary
- To raise funds all of which will be contributed to the Haiti Relief Fund.
The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Earl Huntley, CARICOM Ambassador to Haiti, in collaboration with the 2010 Independence Committee.
Calypsonians from around St Lucia rallied to the call of the Association providing their services pro-bono. The result was a bumper crowd of happy and satisfied patrons at the NCC on February 27. In addition to patrons at the NCC on that night fans of St Lucian calypso all around the world were able to lock on to www.stluciacarnival.net via Scruffy TV to view the exciting happenings live.
The Association had indicated from the outset that all proceeds from the sale of 800 tickets would go towards the Haiti Relief Fund. The cheque presentation will take place on Tuesday March 16, 2010 at the Conference Room of the Cultural Development Foundation (one of the partners of the Association in this venture).
