Carifta Games preparations continue…

Preparations for the staging of the annual Junior Track & Field Championships commonly known as the CARIFTA Games continue apace in St. Lucia as the island’s team enter into a rigorous training schedule.

Several bright spots on the team will be featured at the April 11th to 13th championships. Most notable are Sandisha Antoine who will compete in the triple jump, while Lenyn Leonce will attempt to outclass fellow regional competitors in the long jump event.

St. Lucia will also field Makeba Alcide in the heptathlon and Merica Moncherry in the 100m and 200m sprints.

The Local Organizing Committee’s Technical Director and member of the local Athletics Association, Andrew Magloire is working diligently with the team at the Mindoo Philip Park in a series of training sessions designed to get the athletes in top form for the meet.

Meanwhile preparatory works at the national Stadium located in Vieux Fort continue with contractors committing to have the new track laid down at least two weeks prior to the event’s scheduled date. C.O. Williams is in the process of laying down the asphalt foundation while international group Mondo will install the all important track.
