St. Lucia Independence activities begin to heat up..

It’s another action-packed weekend, chockfull with exciting events to mark the island’s 30th Independence anniversary.

This evening from 6:00, the Police Band the musical arm of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force will continue with its free community concerts. Moving from Fond St. Jacques in Soufriere where they delighted the audience last Sunday, the Police Band will now play in the Babonneau Church Yard.

The “after-work lime” begins at 6:00 p.m. and ACP Moses Charles promises that it will be a spectacular event, showing off as it is, the musical prowess of St. Lucia’s Police Band. He says the band boasts an impressive repertoire made up of multiple genres from classical, to reggae, soca and even Country and Western.

Under the theme “A Journey To Be Proud Of, A Future To Look Forward To”, activities continue on Sunday with the annual Miss Independence Pageant this Sunday.

Produced by renowned St. Lucian Designer Gregory Lorde, the event showcasing the talents of eight local girls from around the island will be held at the National Cultural Centre.

Organizers say the pageant will profit the opportunity to highlight the intellect, talent, poise and beauty of the contestants worthy of the island’s significant milestone this year.

Lorde himself adds that patrons that following up on last year’s debacle of some unruly spectators and supporters who engaged in an all out brawl at the end of the show, security will be significantly pumped up this year.

The Miss Independence pageant begins at four in the afternoon with a cover charge of $20.00.
